FAQ

For anyone we haven’t gotten a chance to really talk to about the move, or for anyone we have talked to who wasn’t really listening, here’s a summary of our life the past 2 months:

1. Why in the world are we moving to Philadelphia?
After taking a much longer-than-intended break from school after undergrad, Kate was fortunate enough to be accepted into the graduate Art Therapy program at Drexel University. While this was not the only school to choose from, Kate figured she couldn’t pass up the opportunity to study in the top program in the country, and decided she needed to go to Philadelphia. As for Brett, this was seen as a great chance to have new experiences (both personal and professional), be a little closer to family, and be supportive of Kate as she pursues her dream. We know it’s far from Chicago, but it’s only a 2-year program (and then who knows!) and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be going on this adventure together.
2. What is art therapy?
Surprise! It’s just what it sounds like – using art as a form of therapy. For those who are curious, Kate’s coursework will center around learning how to treat patients via creative arts and is broken into a few broad areas such as diagnosis, theory/symbolism, and different types of treatment (children vs. adults, individual vs. group, etc) She will also spend a few days a week on location, that is yet to be determined, to do hands-on work.
3. Where is Brett going to work?
For now, Brett will continue to work for Manifest Digital as they’ve been wonderful enough to be willing to work with Brett and figure out the best schedule/circumstances for everyone. This will really be a huge help as we make the transition, and while no one knows what the situation will be a few months from now, it’s a connection to Chicago we’re keeping!
4. Where are we going to live?
After Brett’s totally crazy and unsuccessful day trip to Philly early in the month and the following days of seeing no viable units show up, we were started to get worried. Then right on cue as Brett left Chicago again for work, we got an email about a new place that just hit the market. We looked at the pictures, instantly loved it, and spent the afternoon scrambling to get our paperwork in before anyone else got it. Our efforts paid off and the next morning the real estate agent had to turn away the other couples there to view the house(with checks in hand nonetheless). SO, we will be living in a 2-story rowhome in the Art Museum district of Philly, just northwest of downtown. It’s a 2 bed/1 bath with an almost finished basement and an awesome patio (so please come visit, we have spare beds/rooms and can grill out – yay!)
5. What’s left to do?
Well, mover’s are booked and most things are packed, Kate’s done working on the 30th, and the trip Eastward has been coordinated. Aside from needing to finalize some banking, insurance, and utility stuff, the only thing left is to FIND SOMEONE TO RENT BRETT’S CONDO!!! Please help us! If you know anyone at all that is looking for a place on the north side of town, please pass our information along, we would greatly, greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for checking in on us, and now that the basics are out of the way, the fun begins :)

Cheers,

Brett and Kate
